Fallout 3 instantly crashes pleeease help!?

On the front end, I appologize for the length. I just really really want to play and I'm frustrated :D Ever since I installed it a week ago fallout 3 has crashed within five minutes of loading my save, and usually it happens almost instantly. It doesn't exactly crash, but the screen suddenly freezes and the music continues to play, not a sound loop. I can't pause, I can't move the mouse, I can't alt-tab, I am forced to ctrl+alt+del and close it with tsk manager. If it means anything, tsk manager says fallout 3 has stopped responding and after that it force closes just because i minimized it. I was JUST lucky enough to make it through the birth scene, but still cant even pick my SPECIAL. I was able to make it out to megaton earlier today, but it still crashed every few minutes, just a little less. For some reason, however, my pipboy disappeared and i had to restart hehe :p anyways it seems to always happen (except for that once earlier today) when i get the bb gun from dad and have to shoot the targets/radroach. my laptop isnt quad core so limiting my pc to 2 is not it, my drivers are up-to-date and i know they can handle it, my laptop isnt hot, i have d3d9.dll, i have disabled desktop composition, i am running fallout as an admin, i have reset control mapping to default, i am not running any mods, dirextx is updated, avg is disabled, i am updated to 1.7, i run windows 7 x64 bit, 2.53 ghz cpu, brand new laptop, fallout new vegas runs perfectly no crashes ever, and codecs are up to date. once gain sorry for length but someone pleeease help!
